A 3D crystal gem heart engraved with your photograph, with beveled edges cut around the shape. It is made in five sizes from a 2.36 inch mini to a 6.3 inch XL.
What the Bevels Do
A plain crystal heart has smooth sides and reads as a window onto the engraving. Cutting bevels into the edges turns them into facets, which catch and split light the way a cut stone does. The engraving is identical; what changes is how the object behaves when a lamp or a window is near it.
Slightly Less Crystal
Bevelling removes material, and the weights show it: the gem heart at large size is 3.6 pounds against 3.72 for the plain heart of the same dimensions, and at XL 6.59 against 6.67. The difference is small and it is the only measurable sign of how much has been cut away.
For the Student Who Likes an Object
As a back to school gift the choice between plain and gem is a choice about the person. A gem heart is decorative and will be displayed; a plain one is quieter and reads as a photograph first. For a desk in a shared flat, the plain version attracts less comment.

Picking the Perfect Photo for Your Gem Heart
Almost any photo will work, and our design team can adjust yours if needed. Well lit, blur-free, with the subject clearly in focus - that is the standard.
The faceting does affect what to send us, though. Because the cut edges refract light, detail sitting right at the outer boundary of the engraving can pick up a shimmer from the facets. Keep your subject centred and give it a little breathing room, and everything reads cleanly. A tight portrait or a couple's photo is the natural fit. If you are working with something wider, send it anyway and we will show you what we would crop before we cut anything.
Checked by Hand Before It Ships
Facets multiply light, and light is what exposes a flaw. Every cut plane on this crystal is another angle from which a shallow engraving, a smudge, or an internal imperfection can be caught out. A piece that would pass unnoticed as a smooth heart will not survive the same inspection once it is faceted - which means our standard for this shape has to be higher, not the same.
