If you are not sure which shape to pick, start here. The 3D crystal rectangle is the format most of our customers choose first, and the reason is simple: it stands upright, like a portrait, so a face has room to breathe. Nothing gets cropped at the corners. Nothing gets squeezed. Whatever you upload arrives looking the way you framed it.
That makes it the most forgiving shape we make. A busy photo, a full-body shot, three generations lined up on a porch - a photo glass block handles all of it without asking you to compromise. Each one is engraved by our team in Chicago with a laser that places thousands of individual points inside solid optical crystal. The image is not printed on the surface and cannot rub off. It is inside the glass, and it will still be there in fifty years.
This is the shape to reach for when you know the photo matters more than the packaging. It does not have a personality of its own, and that is the point - it gets out of the way and lets the picture in a glass do the work.
It suits parents and grandparents especially well. An engraved glass block of a portrait, a wedding shot, or a new grandchild is the kind of gift that goes on a mantelpiece and stays. It is also the shape we recommend to first-time buyers, because it is the one you are least likely to regret. If you want something that reads as romantic on sight, the heart says that more loudly. If your photo is a wide group shot with people spread to the far edges, the square gives them more room. Short of those two cases, the rectangle is the safe answer.
Occasions where it lands well:
Choosing the image is easier than most people fear. If you are anything like us, there are dozens of pictures you would love to see engraved - the hard part is narrowing it down. Almost any photo will work, and our design team can adjust yours if it needs it.
What matters is that the image is well lit, free of blur, and that the person or people you want to include are clearly the subject. Beyond that, the upright format is unusually generous: a laser engraved glass block is tall enough to hold a standing figure head to foot without cutting anything off, which is exactly why it handles full-body and multi-generation photos better than the cube or the heart. If the photo means something to you, it means something to us.
The rectangle has the largest flat faces of any shape we make. That is what gives it such a clean view of the image - and it also means there is nowhere for a flaw to hide. A shallow engraving or a smudge that a cut corner might disguise sits in plain sight on a flat pane. It is also our best-selling shape, so consistency is not optional.
That is why a person, not a machine, signs off on every glass block photo keepsake before it is packed. Every one is checked against the same eight points:
Your crystal leaves our Chicago facility only once all eight have passed.
