Fingerprint Necklace Rectangle

A rectangular crystal pendant, a quarter of an inch thick, with a fingerprint engraved inside it and a chain included. The straight faces are the plainest setting we make for a print: no curve pulling at the edges of the pattern, no facets competing with it, just the ridges held in clear crystal. It is the version to choose when the piece has to read as something you wear rather than as a piece of memorial jewellery, which matters to people who would rather not explain it at work.

What a Fingerprint Pendant Does That Paper Cannot

An inked impression is usually kept in a drawer, because showing it means handling it and handling it means losing it. Ink fades, paper yellows and the edges of the ridges blur with every year in a folder. A custom fingerprint necklace puts the same pattern below the surface of a solid block, where skin, clothing, water and sunlight never reach it. Held toward daylight the crystal fills with light and the print reads clearly, which paper under glass has never managed.

Sizes, and What Goes Beside the Print

Three sizes are made: 1.18 by 0.79 inches, 1.38 by 0.98, and 1.57 by 1.18, each a quarter of an inch deep. The rectangle gives a print more room across than down, which suits a thumb impression particularly well. At a quarter of an inch thick it lies flat against clothing instead of swinging on the chain. A name, a date or a set of initials can be engraved alongside at no extra cost, and the straight format leaves space for a full line rather than two or three characters.

Sending the Print

Send an image of the impression: a scan, a phone photograph, or a print supplied by a hospital or a funeral home. Our designers clean it up, lift the ridges away from any smudging and email you a proof, and nothing is engraved until you approve it. If the original is badly broken up they will tell you at that stage rather than let you find out when the parcel arrives.
