A bone is not a solemn shape. What the Depth Engraving Adds
This version is 1.57 inches thick, twice the depth of the flat one, and the laser works throughout that thickness. Your photograph becomes a model engraved at many levels, so the head has genuine volume, fur keeps its texture and a dark muzzle keeps its shape instead of collapsing into a patch. It rewards a close, reasonably sharp picture with the dog clear of the background. If the only photograph you have was taken from across a field or scanned from an old print, the flat version handles it more honestly, and our designers will say so on the proof.
Text Engraved Alongside
Free text engraving is included on this shape, so a name, a date, a pair of dates or a line of your own can be laid out beside the image without an extra charge. Most owners use it for the name at minimum. You can also have the background kept or removed, which matters when the setting is part of the memory: a beach, a back garden, the corner of a sofa that belonged to the dog and nobody else.
Display and Ordering
The block stands on its own and an LED base can be added, lighting the engraving from below so it reads in a dark room. Why Choose a Bone-Shaped Crystal with a Photo Inside?
A bone is not a solemn shape, and that is precisely the argument for it. It is the shape of a treat, a toy, a thing buried in a garden and dug up again three days later. It is the shape of the part of a dog's life that made everybody laugh.
So this crystal does something the other pet shape does not. Every one is laser-engraved by our team in Chicago, thousands of points placed inside solid optical crystal so the photograph sits in the glass rather than on it - but what it says, before anyone reads the face inside, is not "we miss him." It is "you should have seen him." Those are different sentences, and some dogs deserve the second one.
Is a Bone Crystal the Right Gift for You?
Two questions. Is the animal a dog? And is the register right?
The first is straightforward - a bone is a dog's shape, and a cat owner will feel the mismatch immediately. If your photo is of a cat, the paw is the shape you want.
The second matters more. As a gift to a living dog's owner, this is close to perfect: it is warm, a little funny, and it says you paid attention to the animal rather than to the occasion. As a memorial, it is a real choice and not an obvious one. Some families want a 3d dog memorial that is quiet and grave, and for them the paw is the right shape. Others want to remember the ridiculous parts - the stolen socks, the mud, the barking at nothing - and a bone says that where a paw print cannot. Neither is more respectful than the other. They are different griefs, and you know which one you are holding.

Picking the Perfect Photo for Your Bone Crystal
Dogs do not pose. We know this, and we plan for it. Send us the best photo you have and let our design team look at it - we adjust images as a matter of routine, and we have engraved plenty that their owners had already given up on.
What helps: good light, no motion blur, and the face turned toward the camera. What helps specifically here: the bone is a wide, horizontal shape, so a 3d crystal dog photo taken in landscape sits in it far more naturally than a tall one. A dog lying down, running, or looking sideways at the camera fills this outline beautifully. A vertical shot of a dog sitting upright will need cropping - send it anyway, and we will show you what we would trim.
Checked by Hand Before It Ships
The bone is a narrow shape with rounded ends, which leaves less usable engraving area than any other crystal in the range. There is no margin to absorb an error. An image placed a few millimetres off centre does not look slightly off here - it looks wrong, immediately, because the outline is so recognisable that your eye knows where the middle should be.
And a 3d glass pet memorial is not a thing anyone reorders. So a person, not a machine, signs off on every one before it is packed, against the same eight points:

- Is the face clear?
- Is the text readable?
- Are there visible defects in the crystal?
- Is the engraving depth correct?
