Amber 3D Crystal Skirt Landscape

The landscape version of the skirt crystal, 3.15 inches across and 2.56 tall, on a base of amber glass. It is the wider of the two skirt formats, and the width is the reason to choose it: a photograph taken across rather than up keeps its full frame, with nobody trimmed off at the edges. Your picture is engraved inside the clear block, and the amber sits beneath it, warming the light that rises through the engraving.

Built for the Photograph You Already Have

Most family pictures are wide. A group at a table, three people on a sofa, a couple with a dog between them, a view someone came home from: all of these are landscape photographs, and forcing them into an upright frame means losing whoever is standing at the end. This shape takes up to five figures without that compromise. If your picture is of one person standing, the portrait version of the same crystal gives them the height instead. Keep the subjects reasonably close to the camera; a row of people photographed from across a room loses its faces at any size.

Why Amber, and When Not

Amber is the warmest and most traditional of the four colours, closer to lamplight than daylight. It flatters skin tones, sits easily with wood and older furniture, and is the safest choice when you are buying for a house you do not know well. Blue is the cool, modern alternative, green suits an outdoor subject and red is the deliberate statement. None of the colours touch the photograph itself, which is engraved in clear crystal; the skirt only changes the light it sits in.

Engraving, Text and the Base

The image is engraved in Ultra HD inside the block, out of reach of handling, dust and sunlight, and free text engraving is included: a family name, a date, a place. The background can be kept or removed, which is worth a moment’s thought on a landscape picture, since the setting is often half the reason the photograph exists. An LED base is available to light the crystal from below. Three sizes are made, all with the same proportions, so the width relative to the picture does not change as you go up.
