The Shape That Keeps the Group

A round or heart-shaped ornament crops inwards from the sides, so a photograph of three people arrives with the outer two trimmed. An octagon removes only the corners, which on most group pictures contain nothing. For a set where each ornament carries a different household rather than a different individual, this is the shape that keeps everybody in frame.

Engraved Inside the Crystal

The image is cut within the block with a laser rather than printed on a surface, so it reads as a pale three-dimensional form and changes as the ornament turns. Colour is lost, which is the trade. What you get instead is depth and an object that feels like a keepsake rather than a decoration, and an engraving that handles dark photographs better than any printing process does.

Size and Weight

Each piece is 2.36 by 2.36 inches and 0.24 inches thick, about 0.08 pounds, three times the thickness of our printed glass. The flat sides also mean these hang square against a branch rather than turning, so the engraving keeps facing the room instead of showing its edge.

Because the crystal is thicker than our printed glass, these want a branch that will take the weight rather than a thin outer twig, and they are the ornaments most likely to be kept rather than replaced.

A premium option adds gift wrapping and a cleaning kit, which is more useful on engraved crystal than on printed glass, since these invite handling and show fingerprints readily.

The octagon is the least ordered of the four shapes and the most practical, which is a pattern that holds across our whole ornament range rather than just the crystal sets.
