3D Crystal Memorial Tombstone Portrait

An upright block of optical crystal 3.15 inches tall and just under two wide, with the top drawn into an arch so the silhouette reads as a headstone. Inside it, a 3d memorial crystal engraving holds the photograph at varying depths rather than on one plane. The arch is the only part of the object that refers to a grave at all; everything else is a portrait. Why the Upright Shape Suits One Face

The block is taller than it is wide, so the engraving field follows the shape of a person rather than the shape of a room. A 3d keepsake in this format gives a head and shoulders the full height of the crystal, and the face ends up larger here than in any other orientation we make at this size. Up to five figures are recommended and they do fit, though a group photographed side by side is better served by the landscape version of the same shape, which is the same block turned on its side.

What Depth Adds That a Print Cannot

The laser fractures the glass at controlled levels, so what you are looking at is a solid form suspended in the material. The difference between a flat photograph and a glass portrait 3D engraved at depth shows most on a face: the cheek stands forward of the ear, and moving your head changes what you see. That only works when the file supports it. A close, reasonably sharp photograph with the subject clear of the background gives a true 3d portrait in glass, while a distant shot or a scan of an old print is handled more honestly by flat engraving, and our designers will say so on the proof before anything is cut.

Free text engraving is included, and on this shape it is normally a name with two years, set in the clear crystal below the image. The background of the photograph can be kept or removed.
