The same arched crystal as the upright version, turned on its side so that it is wider than it is tall. The shape still carries the headstone outline, but the engraving field is now wider than it is high, and that changes which photographs belong in it.

The Format for Two People, or More

Most photographs worth keeping are wider than one person. A couple at a table, a father with his dog, three generations on a sofa, a group at an anniversary: in an upright block those pictures have to be cropped inward until someone is cut out of them. Here the width is the point. Up to five figures are recommended, and across that width each of them keeps enough crystal to hold detail. If the picture you have is of one person standing, the portrait version of this shape gives that face more height and is the better choice.

Sitting Lower Than It Looks

At just under two inches high this is the shortest of the arched crystals, which matters more than it sounds. A shelf with another shelf above it, a windowsill, the space beside books: an upright block of the same family needs over three inches of clearance and this needs half that. Families who want the piece in a room they use every day rather than on a mantelpiece usually end up here for that reason alone. The depth is unchanged, so the engraving loses nothing by lying down.

Engraving, Text and What to Send

The image is engraved inside the crystal at varying depths, so each person in the frame keeps their own volume instead of sharing a plane with the others. That asks something of the file: subjects reasonably close to the camera and clear of the background behind them.
