A 2D Crystal Photo Is Not the Same as a 3D One

A 3D crystal converts your photo into a depth model and engraves it at many levels, which looks extraordinary with a clear subject and a plain background. A 2D crystal photo engraves a single tonal layer, like a fine halftone held inside the glass. That is the better choice when the photograph has many people, a complex background, low resolution, or is a scan of an old print, because nothing has to be invented to create depth. It is also the right choice for logos, certificates, drawings and text.

What the Light Base Does

Crystal is transparent, so an unlit panel relies on whatever light is behind it. The LED base changes that: light enters from underneath, travels up through the clear glass and scatters only where the laser has fractured the material. The engraved image lights up while the surrounding crystal disappears, which is why customers describe the effect as the photo floating. In a dark room the panel reads as brightly as a small screen.

Photos That Suit Crystal Photo Frames

Group and family photographs with five, ten or twenty faces. Wedding parties. Scans of photographs from the 1950s onward, including ones with scratches, which our designers repair. Buildings, artwork, handwriting, a child's drawing, a company logo, a certificate. Anything where the value is in the whole frame rather than in a single subject standing out from a background.

Adding Text

Because the engraving is a single layer, text integrates cleanly beside or beneath the image: a name and two dates for a memorial, a wedding date, a retirement message, a company name under a logo. Send the wording at checkout. There is no extra design fee, and our team lays it out to balance the image rather than compete with it.

Proof, Delivery and Care

Upload your photo or scan at checkout. A designer retouches it, repairs damage where possible, prepares the engraving file and emails a free digital proof, usually within a day, with revisions until you approve. The crystal and its LED base ship together in a gift box with a microfiber cloth within 3-5 business days in the US. Wipe the polished surfaces with the cloth; the engraving is sealed inside the glass and needs no care at all.
