3D Crystal Rose

A rose engraved inside an upright block of optical crystal: petals curling in on themselves, the stem and leaves below, the whole flower cut at varying depths rather than marked on a surface. A 3d rose made this way is not a picture of a flower on glass but a form suspended inside it, with clear crystal in front of it and behind it. Nothing is uploaded and no proof is approved, because a crystal glass rose of this kind is made to a fixed design and ships exactly as it is shown.

The Hardest Thing to Ask of a Depth Engraving

A rose is the most demanding subject in this whole range, which is the reason to look at it closely. A geometric design has one plane, a face has two or three, and a rose has a dozen: every petal curls in front of the one behind it, and the centre is a spiral that folds into itself. A 3d etched crystal rose only holds together if the laser has placed those layers at genuinely different depths, because the moment they collapse onto a single plane the flower turns into a bright smudge. Move your head and the petals shift against one another. That movement is the test, and a photograph of the piece cannot show it.

The Argument Against Cut Flowers

Roses are the default romantic gift and they are gone inside a week, which everybody knows and nobody mentions. This is the same gesture with the time limit taken out of it. An engraved rose also works for occasions that are not romantic at all, where real flowers are the correct thing to send and also the temporary thing: a condolence, a retirement, a hospital visit, a mother’s birthday. It needs no water and looks the same in ten years as on the day it arrives.

Three Sizes and the Base

The small is 1.97 inches square at the base and 3.15 tall at 1.09 pounds, the medium 2.76 by 3.94 at 2.28, the large 3.15 by 4.72 at 3.14. An LED base can be added underneath, and on this subject it does more than on most: the light enters at the foot of the stem and travels up through the leaves into the petals, which is close to how a real flower is lit from below by a table. Gift wrapping, a pop up card and a cleaning kit are also available. Gift box included, made in 1-2 business days, US delivery in 3-5.
