An engraving built at varying depths needs distance between the front face and the back to place its subjects at. Two and a half inches is enough for a foreground figure to sit clearly forward of a background one, and for a face to have genuine roundness rather than the suggestion of it. On smaller pieces the effect is convincing; here it is unmistakable, and it is the single reason to pay for this size rather than the medium. It also means a photograph with three or four people in it holds together, where the same picture on a small heart would crowd.

Each piece weighs 3.72 pounds and the pair needs about ten inches of clear width. These are not moved around once placed, and they are not posted to two addresses, which separates this configuration from the small pair entirely. A pair at this size is a single gift for one household: a fortieth anniversary, a retirement, the two photographs a family would choose if they were only allowed two.

What to Send, and How It Is Made

Each crystal is engraved in Ultra HD from its own file, and at this size the quality of the photograph is fully visible. A close, sharp picture with the subjects clear of the background is what the depth model needs; a distant shot or a scan of an old print is rendered more honestly flat, and our designers will say so on the proof rather than let you find out at delivery. Two proofs come by email and nothing is cut until both are approved. Both pieces are cropped wide, since the heart has no upright option.
