#1 Dad 3D Crystal

A crown and the words #1 dad engraved inside a block of optical crystal, framed, with the characters larger than on anything else in this group. It is the oldest joke in the category: the mug, the T-shirt, the plastic trophy from a service station. The point of this version is that the joke is made in something that does not get thrown away.

The Gag Outlives the Object It Usually Comes On

Printed mugs go in the dishwasher until the lettering ghosts. T-shirts become decorating clothes. The trophy loses its gold paint in about a year, which is funny for a while and then just looks sad on a shelf. Here the crown and the lettering are cut at varying depths inside the crystal, so there is nothing on the surface to fade, chip or peel, and a number 1 dad that was given as a half joke is still standing on the desk a decade later, which turns out to be a different kind of joke entirely.

The Shortest Line, and What That Buys

Two characters and one word is the least text of the three designs here, which means the letters are the biggest. At the smallest size, under two inches wide, this is the only one of the three that is fully readable from across a room rather than from arm's length. If the piece is going onto a crowded desk or a workshop shelf where it will be seen in passing, that matters more than it sounds. The crown sits below the type, cut deeper than the frame, so it catches light before the letters do.

Sizes, Light and Ordering

Three sizes are made: 1.97 inches square and 3.15 tall at 1.09 pounds, 2.76 by 3.94 at 2.28, and 3.15 by 4.72 at 3.14. Because the design is simple, the large version reads as an object rather than an ornament, which suits the trophy idea if you want to lean into it. The design is ready made, so there is no file to send and no proof to wait on. An LED base can be added, and on a crown it does noticeably more than on plain type. Gift wrapping, a pop up card and a cleaning kit are also available. Gift box included, made in 1-2 business days, US delivery in 3-5.
