This is the 2D version: your picture is engraved as a single tonal layer inside the material rather than modelled in depth. A chain is included, and the pendant is worn rather than opened, since there is nothing to open. The difference between the two versions is not quality but suitability, and for a large number of photographs the flat engraving is the more honest choice.

When Flat Engraving Is the Better Option

A 3D engraving converts your photograph into a depth model, which is remarkable when there is one clear subject and a clean background to work from. A custom photo pendant engraved flat takes the opposite approach: it reproduces the tones that are actually in the file, with no depth invented anywhere. That makes it the right pick for scans of old prints, pictures taken from a distance, low-resolution phone shots from years ago and anything already soft or grainy before we start. Those are the photographs people most often want to wear, and they are exactly the ones a depth model handles worst.

Worn Against Clothing Every Day

The image sits inside the crystal, where friction, perfume, water and daylight cannot reach it. Nothing rubs away, peels at a corner or yellows with age, which is the usual fate of a printed charm and the reason lockets hide their photographs in the first place. A name, initials or a date can be engraved beside the picture at no extra cost, and on a rectangle there is room for a full line rather than two or three characters.
