An Acrylic Photo Block That Is Engraved, Not Printed
Most acrylic photo blocks on the market are UV-printed: the image is a flat layer of ink on one face, and viewing it from the side shows nothing. Ours is engraved inside the acrylic, so the picture is built from points at different depths within the material. That is what gives a 3D acrylic photo block its dimension, and it is also why the image cannot scuff, peel or fade the way printed ink eventually does.
Why 8x8 Rather Than a Smaller Acrylic Block
Small acrylic blocks, 2x2 and 3x3, are desk objects that read well with one face. At 8 by 8 inches you have enough area for a group of six to eight people with faces still recognisable, or for a landscape with foreground and horizon both holding detail. This is the size customers order when the block is meant to be the thing on the shelf rather than one of several. It also stands unaided, with no frame, stand or wall fixing needed.
Acrylic Compared to Crystal
Optical crystal is heavier, harder and refracts light more strongly. Acrylic is lighter, warmer in tone, and far more forgiving: dropped from a shelf it will scratch rather than shatter. For a nursery, a family room or a gift being shipped abroad, acrylic is the sensible choice. For a formal award or a piece meant to catch light from a window, crystal usually wins. Both take the same engraving process.
Photos That Suit This Size
Because the block is large, you can use photos our smaller pieces cannot handle: a full wedding party, three generations of a family, a wide landscape, a house with its garden. What still matters is focus and light. Blurry, dark or heavily filtered images lose tonal steps in engraving. Our design team crops, brightens and rebalances every file, and tells you plainly if a photo will not carry at this scale.
Lighting, Proofing and Care
A wooden or LED base underneath lifts the block and lights the engraving from below, making the image glow in a dim room. After you upload your photo, a designer prepares it and emails a free digital proof, usually within a day, with revisions until you approve. The finished block ships in a gift box with a microfiber cloth within 3-5 business days in the US. Clean it with the cloth only: acrylic scratches more easily than glass, so avoid paper towels and household cleaners.
